Communication styles from the Chinese Zodiac

February 21, 2022

We’re now well into the first month of the Year of the Tiger, the third in a 12 year cycle of zodiac signs.

The Cognito APAC team this year assembled a communication guide based on the zodiac. Since the start of a new year also means re-setting goals, organising creative sessions to promote fresh ideas or testing out new solutions to old problems. Each of these situations calls for a different way of working and communicating to get the intended result.

So, if you’re looking to shake up your communications approach as you head into the year of the Tiger, we’ve created a useful guide to help effectively communicate with work colleagues, clients and peers, based on their Chinese Zodiac signs. If you need your boss to buy into an idea, want to land a meeting with an important investor, or get a teammate excited about a new project, then why not give this a try!

Look below to see your preferred communication style and then match it up with that of your boss, client or colleague. Be warned – you will need to know the year of their birth!

The Rat (2008, 1996, 1984, 1972, 1960, 1948)

Personality: Rats are adaptable and optimistic, which makes them great problem solvers! They make great planners and are usually the engine that helps teams to overcome challenges.

Effective communication style: When speaking to rats, matching their optimism and positivity goes a long way in getting them excited. Even if there’s bad news, try to focus on opportunities and optimistic outcomes.

The Ox (2009, 1997, 1985, 1973, 1961, 1949)
